July 22 2010  Latest iOS Support

Hi Everyone,
iFuntastic 6.6.5 b007 is available - a free upgrade from the previous version

Added support for iOS4, the firmware. iPhone 4, the device, has not been tested yet - the Widgetation page may have issues with the increased size of the retina display.

The display order (now with folders) and the application info files (for icons and names) have gotten very complex, and the potential number of applications very large. Because of that, and since iTunes now supports rearranging of applications, iFuntastic's Home Screen Layout page has been retired. Wallpaper images and Home Screen Movies can now be set through the templates mechanism on the WinterBoard Themes page. There, you will also find a couple of new additions: you can add gap applications (with invisible icons) to add some space between apps. You can also add an Hourly Chime to your WinterBoard themes which will do just that (unfortunately not after the phone has been asleep for a while. It appears to go into an even deeper sleep after a certain amount of time.)

Thank you for submitting bug reports when necessary, and thank you for your support!

Regards,
Chris

June 17 2010  iPad Support

Hi Everyone,
iFuntastic 6.6.5 b005 is available - a free upgrade from the previous version

Well, that took a while. It's getting harder to keep up with Apple... and the next iOS is already around the corner.

The iPad wreaked some havoc on iFuntastic due to the large screen and the ever-changing orientation thereof. Please read more about iPad specifics on Om Man iPad Me Hum...

While dealing with the iPad issues I reworked the Widgetation page. It's much more robust with regard to maintaining future compatibility, but existing themes using widgets are not compatible anymore - the changes are just too extensive. I am very sorry about that, but I hope the improvements will make it worth your while: a new animatable and programmable sprite widget - the glory of HTML5 at your fingertips. Please check out the examples.

Documentation is lagging behind as usual; I'm trying!

As always, please report problems so I can take care of them. Thank you, and thank you for your support!

Regards,
Chris

April 25 2010  iTunes 9.1 fix

Hi Everyone,
iFuntastic 6.6.5 b004 is available - a free upgrade from the previous version

Fixes an incompatibility problem with the MobileDevice framework that comes with iTunes 9.1.
If your version of iFuntastic works, then you don't need this upgrade.

Regards,
Chris

February 03 2010  iPhone OS 3.1.3 Support

Hi Everyone,
iFuntastic 6.6.5 b003 is available - a free upgrade from the previous version

Not all devices running OS 3.1.3 can be jailbroken!
Please find more information at the following websites:
Dev Team's blog,
GeoHot's blog and
Hack That Phone
or others. Read all information carefully before you update!

As always, I can't fix it if I don't know about it!
Should you encounter any problems, please use the contact options in iFuntastic's Help menu.

Regards,
Chris

October 14 2009  iPhone OS 3.1.2

Hi Everyone,
iFuntastic 6.6.5 b002 is available, with support for iPhone OS 3.1.2 (as mentioned below.)

You can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 with the Dev Team's PwnageTool 3.1.4 or GeoHot's blackra1n (click on the Apple to download.) PwnageTool is the safer (although a bit more complicated) way to go - especially for the iPhone 3GS. Make sure you read all the info on the Dev Team's blog.

If you choose to use blackra1n or have already done so, you need to take an additional step to make your device appear 'Unshackled' in iFuntastic: use Cydia to install afc2add - this will add the AFC2 file service which is necessary to give iFuntastic full read and write access to the file system.

Regards,
Chris

October 10 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.5 b002 is available

Hi Everyone,
just a couple of things:

  • fixed the Home Screen slideshow function on the Home Screen Layout page
Regards,
Chris

September 24 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.5 b001 - a free upgrade from the previous version

Hi Everyone,
"eine schwere Geburt" as they say in Thailand :-)

Fixes & Tweaks
  • fix for unrecognized MobileDevice issue with iTunes 9
  • fix for the visual problems (illegible text) in Snow Leopard
  • fixed a bug relating to gaps in the dock row when changing the display order
  • fixed a bug with apostrophes in file path names
  • removed the MouseHelper page
  • removed the e-mail signature page
New Features

Support for firmware 3.1 (iPhone) and 3.1.1 (iPod touch.)

New Widgetation page:
It lets you create widgets to display on the Lock Screen, Home Screen or in Web Clips. Among the available widgets are embedded web pages, text, images, weather and system information, time, mail and battery level dependent images and - dare I say it - much more. You have great freedom in setting color, size, orientation, reflection, borders and transformation. Check it out!

This is also the new way to create e-mail signatures. It fixes an issue with images and lets you create more sophisticated signatures, Signatures can now be part of WinterBoard themes for easy switching.

As the combinations of OS, iTunes, firmware and devices become so numerous, I simply cannot test everything. It is more important than ever for you to report any problems you may encounter. Please take a moment to send a bug report or a note (see Help menu.)
Thank you!

Regards,
Chris

September 10 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.4 b004 and Apple's latest software and firmware releases

Hello Fellow iFunatics,
iFuntastic works with Snow Leopard (I did notice some visual irregularities, though) and iTunes 9. iFuntasic DOES NOT yet support firmware 3.1 (3.1.1 for iPod,) and neither firmware can be jailbroken at this point. If you are interested in future jailbreaking, then AVOID updating your firmware, no matter how desperately iTunes wants you to. Apple are tightening the noose: if you have an iPhone 3GS, you CANNOT restore to any firmware version other than 3.1 anymore. DO NOT use the 'MouseHelper' page in iFuntastic, and be careful not to do anything that may make a restore necessary.
I'll release a new version of iFuntastic once a jailbreak for 3.1 is available, and after I made any necessary changes and fixes.
You can read more about the state of affairs at Hack That Phone, BigBoss and the Dev-Team Blog.

Regards,
Chris

July 18 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.4 b003 is available - a free upgrade from the previous version

Hi Everyone!

The main improvements focus on WinterBoard theme creation and editing on the WinterBoard Themes page. It's now easier than ever to create your own themes and edit existing themes!
  • better and more convenient region/language handling
  • support for .strings files for themeing of UI text; sort the fields to change by key or data
  • added ability to create WinterBoard Templates from complete application or framework folders (see this in action in the video)
Additional Changes, Improvements and Fixes:
  • added a Mouse Helper page for easy capture of the iBEC and iBSS files. The Dev Team recommends saving these files for future jailbreaking
  • added some specific 3GS (and 3.0) support: Videos and Voice Memos sections in The Bit Pit
  • latest jailbreaking tools
  • added Emoji and Hide Clock support to the iFuntastic Support installation page
  • faster Image Browser loading
  • added filtering to the Image Browser - find images quickly by name, location or dimensions
  • you can now drag folders/files onto the 'Current path' menu to quickly switch to the desired folder
Respectfully submitted for your consideration,
Chris

June 23 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.4 b001 is available - with support for firmware 3.0

Hi Everyone!

You know you're in trouble when Jury Duty is looking good to you - from an income point of view! I'm struggling to keep afloat while doing right by you as well:
  • if you have previously bought any level higher than 'Foundation', then "Thank You!" - this version is free for you (and will activate all features)

  • if you have previously bought only the 'Foundation' level, then "Thank You!" also, but I'd kindly ask you to pay for the upgrade
New price / upgrade price: $5.95 for all features.

Please help me keep iFuntastic going - tell your friends about it, post comments online; spread the word!

Firmware 3.0 has broken a couple of things in iFuntastic;
hopefully they can be fixed in future versions:
  • the /dev/101 page has been removed - it will take a while longer to update and test
  • Jack the Scripter (building applications that execute scripts) cannot launch web sites or other applications anymore
  • iTunes Backup listing in The Bit Pit; it looks like that data will be inaccessible from now on
If you notice any other problems, please let me know!

Additional changes:
  • fixed a bug on the Home Screen Layout page that interfered with label text style settings
  • removed Son of iFuntastic - e-mail signature and display order packages can be switched with dedicated applications which you can create on the Jack the Scripter page

Respectfully submitted for your consideration,
Chris

June 12 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.3 b001 is available - this is a free upgrade

Hola Everyone!
Some news from 500 miles south of WWDC.

First a reminder - iFuntastic (and the jailbreaking tools) must be tested and updated for new versions of the iPhone OS (duh,) but also for new versions of iTunes! iTunes installs the MobileDevice.framework which takes care of communications between computer and device. Any changes to this framework may break the tools, and indeed, there are issues with iTunes 8.2.

As tempting as it usually is:
Do not hastily update either the firmware or iTunes if you want to avoid problems.

The new version of iFuntastic appears to work with iTunes 8.2, but should you have problems, please let me know. As for the impending OS 3.0 - first the Dev Team have to test and release a new version of their tools, then I'll have to test and release a new version of iFuntastic - this may take a few weeks.

Meanwhile, I greatly reduced my to-do list with fixes, tweaks and improvements:

Fixes & Tweaks
  • Cleaned up the user interface a bit
  • Updated the E-mail signatures page
  • Documentation can be accessed through (i) icons from almost every page
  • Fixed the iTunes Backup Folder listing to accommodate changed format
  • File Manager now displays the 'human' name beneath the cryptic folder names for App Store apps and web clips
  • You can now manually enter an IP address on the SSH Helper page in case iFuntastic fails to retrieve the correct one
  • Text Settings for icon labels and dock icon labels can now be changed independently on the WinterBoard Themes page
Image Editor
  • added a crop area size menu to quickly set the size of an image to some standard sizes (Application icon, dock image, full screen etc.)
  • added a 'Screen' option for image masking; lets you select a color in an image to turn transparent
  • added a 'Horizontal' option for color gradients
New and Improved Home Screen Layout

This is the big news.
The previous Home Screen page has been discontinued in favor of a greatly enhanced Home Screen Layout page. I added the most important home screen theme items to it:
  • Display Order - arrange apps and web clips to your liking, add gaps if desired, then write it to the device
drag them by page, sort them alphabetically. Lets you drag a selection of apps. Support for Five Icon Dock and Five Column SpringBoard.

Now you can focus on the rest of the theme layer by layer
  • Movie
  • Wallpaper - static image, but it can act as a mask above the movie
  • Slideshow - display a sequence of images or create your own HTML page for the home screen
  • Background - per page wallpaper images, as before
  • Status Bar
  • Dock
  • Application Icons - new included Image Editor Settings; you can now create your own as well
  • Summary - get the big picture; lets you activate or deactivate each layer
The easy way to make your own WinterBoard themes.

Respectfully submitted for your consideration,
Chris

May 05 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.2 b001 is available - this is a free upgrade from 6.5.0 and up

Hi Everyone!
The changes in this version are primarily behind the scenes (website, purchasing and pricing) - iFuntastic's features are now broken into 4 groups to make it more accessible and flexible. Also new: promotional activation codes. To begin with, there are 10 free upgrades from the minimum feature level to the next higher level available. Read about the new feature levels here.

Other than that:
  • fixed some bugs regarding XML entities in ringtone files (thanks Mike!)
  • put the SSH password utilities into a separate SSH Helpers page

Happy Cinco de Mayo,
Chris

April 06 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.1 b001 is available - this is a free upgrade from 6.6.0

Hi Everyone!
One new feature: Home Screen Background.
It supports the recent addition to WinterBoard of 'per page' background images. This greatly simplifies the creation of 'panoramic' Home Screen backgrounds. Check it out!
Regards,
Chris

March 22 2009  iFuntastic 6.6.0 b002 is available - this is a free upgrade from 6.5.0

Greetings!
I have made substantive changes to the way iFuntastic talks to devices and to the bSE server. This results in much better performance; however, you will have to re-install iFuntastic Support. (I'm sorry if you have just gone through this process.) Please note that active three day trials do not carry over to the new version.

Two Exciting New Features (for aspiring developers)

Repo Man - make your own Cydia repositories (web server needed)

/dev/101 - create your own applications and command line tools. Installs all tools to compile and run your own code on the iPhone/iPod. Requires the 2.2.1 SDK (and therefore an Intel computer with Leopard) for setup, but after that, all you need is a computer running iFuntastic.

Changes & Improvements
  • reduced the lag time for script execution (e.g. SpringBoard restart)
  • sped up the rebuild of the application list
  • fixed a Display Order problem that caused a respring loop (Home Screen page - thanks John)
  • taps on placeholders for the background image still open Safari, but don't display the 'Page not found' message anymore
  • conversion to .m4a, .m4r and .wav does not require iTunes anymore (and therefore leaves your music library alone)
  • fixed setting artist and name tags in AAC files
  • fixed a custom ringtone naming bug
  • added ringtone conversion when copying into the standard ringtone list (thanks Brian)
  • added 'Open parent folder' to the item popup in the file manager; useful when looking at search results
  • added functions to kill an executing script and to load/unload daemons
  • you can now set the labels (and order) for the File List in Jack the Clipper independent of the file name
  • added 'WinterBoard Theme Toggle' to the Jack the Scripter application options; one tap to toggle your favorite theme on or off
  • many more fixes and tweaks

Please report bugs and compatibility problems to me with the options in the Help menu. If no one tells me about a problem, then I can't fix it!
Regards, and Merry Spring!
Chris
